The Academy of Principals is an amalgamation of 3 previously existing associations of school principals in Singapore. It was established in January 2002 with the help of the Ministry of Education, Singapore.

The Academy's vision is for a values-driven fraternity that will build up its members through trust, capacity building, ties, and partnerships. We see the academy leading the profession to new heights by advancing professional knowledge and providing professional support to produce the global principal.

The Academy has over 500 members, mainly comprising principals and vice-principals sering in Singapore schools as well as international schools. We have an office at the Teachers Network in Grange Road.

The Academy is active in providing resources to principals and more importantly, helping them to tap on the fraternity's tacit knowledge, built on the wisdom of many principals and school leaders. One of our more prominent programmes is the Mentoring Programme where more experienced principals mentor newly appointed principals at the invitation of the latter. We have found the building of trust and interdependence in such relationships very satisfying.

The Academy also started a half yearly publication in 2007, entitled Principia which tells the unvarnished stories of various principals, both of those in service and those who have retired. We feature a range of different leadership styles in each publication, demonstrating the belief that there is no right answer when leading. The stories also show that an ability to see and hear the needs of the school as well an ability to reflect impacts on the formulation of a personal philosophy of leadership that always holds true.

As part of the reflective process, we have also been facilitating members of our fraternity as they go on sabbaticals and make learning journeys to other countries. Our links with the International Confederation of Principals have been extremely useful in helping the Academy to make the connections needed for school visits and relevant conferences.

The current President is Mrs Belinda Charles, Principal of St Andrew's Secondary School.
