The International Confederation of Principals is an international body of educators that convenes every two years for dialogue and professional development. The biennial convention brings together principals from around the world in a special community of practitioners to share and learn new developments on leadership trends and insights.

The Academy of Principals (Singapore) is honoured to be given the privilege of hosting the 9th World Convention of the International Confederation of Principals 2009 (ICP 2009). This exciting and vibrant event was held at Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre from 7th - 9th July 2009, uniting an international audience of 1,500 educators from 40 different countries in the common goal of pushing the boundaries of what we know about Teaching and Education.

The tagline of this year's convention - "Many Minds, One Heartbeat" - encapsulates the universal work of educators with their myriad challenges to bring about a better world. It has been our greatest pleasure to host luminaries such as Sir Dexter Hutt, Prof Andy Hargreaves, Prof David Perkins, Mr Michael Furdyk, Prof Kishore Mahbubani, Dr Gene Carter and Prof Yong Zhao, who led the convention in exploring important issues in the new educational landscape.

In addition to visionary keynote speeches, ICP 2009 offered delegates a wide range of concurrent session topics which centred around three main strands - "Re-framing Teaching and Learning", "Re-inventing Educational Leadership and Management" and "Re-designing Educational Systems". Convention Delegates were also given opportunities to experience the vibrancy of the local schools through various Learning Journeys which showcased the Singaporean Education Experience.

Logo Description

The ICP 2009 Logo is both emblematic of the National Flower of Singapore - Vanda Miss Joachim, as well as one of the icons of Singapore - The Esplanade. It depicts ICP 2009 as a person leaping on a curve of learning that stretches like a ribbon. Many ribbons meet at a point, signifying a sharing of different ideas from around the world for a common purpose. The logo reminds us that whilst we have many minds, we share one heartbeat.
